The computer lab is filled with mouse clicks and keystrokes as we work on learning some new tools.  The younger grades (K through 2) learned about digital picture taking and how to frame up their subject.  Then they took their own pictures and did some power editing using the lasso and eraser to remove the background.  Of course the big laughs came when we all drew in mustaches, a favorite color of hair, and wacky glasses and hats!  The middle and upper grades learned how to follow a rubric to make a powerpoint presentation.  These children are so good, you could have some of them run powerpoint seminars at your work and people would pay to learn - from a 3rd grader!

Some quick "WOWS!" I just have to mention:

  • Do you think you type fast?  An 8th grader has typed the fastest I have ever seen!  Can you believe 122 WPM?  And since I don't count scores unless they have ZERO errors... he is accurate also.  3rd through 8th grades use Mavis Beacon software to learn and evaluate their typing skills.

  • I am always amazed at the skills of our younger students as well. This week I have brought powerpoint to the 1st grade.  Aside from the difficulties of spelling words, they understand the program very well and enjoy using it.  So if you need a quick home lesson in powerpoint... ask an OLM 1st grader.
Finally, The lab has a slightly newer, but much improved look with the LCD projector mounted on the ceiling!  No wires to trip over and no more being blinded while presenting to the class!  Thank you NiƱo!

Please remember to be safe online!

Coming soon to computer class:  Excel Battleship!  Who knew Excel could be so much fun?
