1A - 2nd Quarter Update

Dear First Grade Families,

It has been a wonderful first quarter in First Grade A! The first graders have shown great improvement, independence, motivation and enthusiasm for learning.

This quarter, students will continue to work on many academic concepts.

In reading, students will continue to work on identifying story elements, sequencing, and identifying the main idea in stories they read. They will continue to practice reading with fluency.

Students are continuing to apply various strategies in solving addition and subtraction problems. They will soon be introduced to patterns, reading and making graphs.

In Social Studies, students are learning about the community and community helpers. Our class will be holding Career Day, where they will hear presentations from parents about their careers. Their writing has been improving everyday. They are continuing to practice using proper punctuation and capitalization, as well as writing clear and complete sentences. They write in their journals everyday about concepts we have learned in class and their experiences.

I look forward to having them continue to improve in all areas, as well as grow in their Catholic faith.

Thank you for your continuous support in helping your child learn.

They will write clear, complete sentences and work towards writing a short paragraph by the end of the year. They will conduct investigations and explore different concepts in science. In math, students will learn about money, how to tell time, addition, subtraction and geometry. They will gain insight in social studies about communities, careers and geography.
