4A - 1st Quarter Update

Thank you OLM community for making me feel so welcomed as I begin teaching here. Classroom 4A is off to a great start with a class full of bright and eager learners.

Our academic and spiritual journey begins with Monday morning Mass and leads us into religion where we are studying about the goodness of God. Our character trait for September is “Responsibility” as we learn to become more independent and responsible in the forth grade. Next month we will focus on “Respect”.

The next step in our journey is Math where place value is our focus giving us a solid foundation for addition and subtraction of larger numbers, our next unit.

Social Studies lessons are directing us to learn the geography of California and the various resources available to us. We are making a raised relief California map in order to better understand the challenges and blessings our geography poses. We will begin to learn about California’s first inhabitants in our next unit.

Our theme in reading is facing challenges where we are focusing on character traits and motivations, this parallel’s nicely with our writing topic where we are beginning an essay about ourselves. This would not be complete with out our English lessons about writing good sentences.

Ecosystems are the center of our concentration in science. We have built the non-living portion of an ecosystem for our science lab. We eagerly await the living portion to arrive. From there we will learn about how living and non-living things are interdependent.

We, in 4A, are excited about where our path through the year is leading us.
