8B - 2nd Quarter Update

The first quarter has been a busy time for 8b. We attended assemblies by area high school to help us in our future decisions and after the visits began shadowing at the schools. We started our confirmation program and are moving forward to receiving the sacrament. Each month we meet with our first grade prayer partners and have a celebration. We read to them, do art projects and have refreshments. In literature we have read several stories including Sherlock Holm's The Speckled Band and Edgar Allen Poe's The Tell Tale Heart. After reading the stories we have watched DVDs and compared them with the stories. Eighth grade history is based on United States Government. We studied the formation of the colonies and did oral reports on the thirteen colonies. We watched the presidential debates and are following the election process. We ended the quarter with a special day of recollection. The prayer service was a great success and we are looking forward to our next special day.

8B - 1st Quarter Update

The eighth grade has begun their last year at Our Lady of Mercy enthused and eager to lead the school to greatness. This will be a very busy year for us with Confirmation, high school visits, our entrances test and finally graduation. We are up for the challenge. We began our year by meeting with our first grade prayer partners and preparing activities with them for the coming year. We are begun studying the history of the United States and the Constitution. In this quarter, we will be looking at how our government works and the election process. The class has already listened to presidential debates and discussed the points of these debates. In literature, we have begun our first book report that will be based on the American Revolutionary Period. Every month thought the year we will be reading a different genre or theme. We have a lot to accomplish in our last year , but we are the Class of 2012 and proud of it.
