Kindergarten B - 2nd Quarter Update

Dear KB Families,

The first quarter of the school year has just passed, and we are well on our way into the second quarter of your child's first year at OLM! It has been a busy first 50 days of school!

Each school day provides rich opportunities for your child to grow.

In Religion, we have been learning about God's wonderful gifts of light, water, land, animals, and people. In Language Arts, we are continuing to learn the sounds and spellings of the letters of the alphabet. In Math, we have just finished our unit on Shapes, and are continuing to study how to make different patterns. We have just finished our first unit in Social Studies, and have taken our first big Unit Test! In Science, we are learning about plants and animals and how they grow and change.

Your child is challenged academically while working at the different STATIONS and Centers. There are rich opportunities for writing and literacy during our AM and PM Meetings and Free Choice Time. Different games, dances, songs, and activities that we have throughout the day reinforce number and math concepts.

We look forward to the rest of the school year, and wait with eagerness for these upcoming Kindergarten activities: the Thanksgiving Feast on November 21st, and Breakfast with Santa on December 13th. We thank all our families for their continued support and help in all our activities!

Kindergarten B - 1st Quarter Update

We are eager to welcome you to Our Lady of Mercy School!

Kindergarten is the most pivotal year in your child's school career. Many experts agree that this is the time of profound intellectual and developmental growth. It is the year they will develop their attitude towards learning.

For many young children, school can be exciting and frightening, exhilarating and exhausting. They ask questions like: What will my classroom look like? How will I find it? Will my teacher like me?

Parents might have questions such as: Will the teachers understand my child? Will they give her what she needs? Is the school environment safe and caring?

We hope that the next few days of school will help "move" you into Kindergarten, and ease the transition from home to school.

In class, we will establish routines that foster a sense of community and joy among our children. We will create an environment for them where they can truly feel at home, so that they in turn will feel safe to take risks and grow.

Our children will develop a love of learning. They will develop a sense responsibility and independence, and will be given many opportunities for practice.

We look forward to an exciting year of growth and learning and fun! We hope that you, our parents will be our partners in this very important and crucial year of your child's school life!
