Computer Education - 2nd Quarter Update

The computer lab is bustling with activity as students in third through eighth grades have been hard at work on creating presentations about our Schoolwide Learning Expectations. It truly is amazing to see how well students are able to take the quick instruction in the lab and weave their own ideas into a presentation. The younger students took a quick picture of themselves and edited all sorts of fun things into the picture using the paint tools. There is usually a burst of uncontrollable laughter when the students put moustaches and hats on their face with silly glasses.

I think all of that hard work had Santa come early with the delivery of new computers for the computer lab! This is great for the school because the current lab computers will be moved to the classrooms. That is a welcome upgrade to the classroom teachers. OLM tries to stay on a three to four year technology refresh schedule to keep the whole school updated.

Speaking of technology upgrades, if your company is getting rid of technology items that may be of use to the school, please keep OLM in mind! Call or email me to ask any questions.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Computer Education - 1st Quarter Update

Welcome back! It's a new year and a new schedule, but the same fun learning down in the Computer Lab! One big change - that all of the students seem to be really happy about - is that everyone gets computer every week! A little more time to do a lot more things.

The first thing all will be working on is keyboarding. A study guide will be going home next week for the students to practice. You can help by helping them memorize the keys (grades 3-8 will be having a test in class at a later date). Kindergarten through second grades really need to know how to find the keys for their names. All grades will be using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, which gets great results and practice for everyone.

After keyboarding will be word processing. We will be focusing on getting the formatting correct and using the tools.

As always, remember to watch what your children are doing online, monitor what is being posted on social networking, and remind students there are things to do beside sit in front of the computer at home.

Finally, if your company is upgrading their tech hardware, find out if it can benefit our tech program. Email me for details! Thank You!
