Third Quarter Update:

Library Update

Our library continues to be a busy place as we move into our fourth quarter of the school year.  Along with selecting books to read for pleasure or study, students are actively engaged in challenges and activities that improve their study skills, spark their imaginations, and build self-confidence.

Our youngest students are not only learning about how the library works but also discovering the resources it has to offer.  They're getting to know authors and illustrators, learning how to tell their own stories, and working on listening and communication skills.

We're focusing on using resource materials and improving study skills in the upper grades.  Students, individually and in small groups, meet challenges that require attentive listening, following directions, organizational skills, time management, and being able to work as part of a team.

Though the library is a quiet place, that doesn't mean there's not a lot going on.  Along with enhancing study skills, students are also stretching their imagination, expanding their vocabulary, and practicing both written oral communication skills.  We may be quiet, but we're busy learning and growing.

Second Quarter Update:

Returning books and taking time to peruse the library shelves for a new book to borrow begin each student's time in the library. But, that's not all we do. Students not only hone their library skills, but also engage in assignments and activities that will enhance their study skills and further their exploration of the written language.

Students practice oral communication and attentive listening and work to improve their time management and organizational skills.  Along with practicing skills taught in the classroom
and the use of reference materials, students are also stretching their imaginations and expanding their vocabulary while reading for pleasure.

One of the highlights of each school year is our annual book fair, which was just held in conjunction with Catholic Schools Week.  Students, parents, and teachers delighted in the opportunity to shop in their own bookstore filled with literature to appeal to all ages.  What a wonderful opportunity to further instill the joy of reading and guide our students on their journey to becoming lifelong learners!

First Quarter Update:

The library is a busy place as we move into the second quarter of the year.  Students continue to study the structure of libraries and are becoming more familiar with the resources they provide and how to use them.   Students will soon access the county library system through the use of the Internet.   This will allow them the opportunity to research materials available in all libraries within the county along with other timesaving options for both study and pleasure reading.

Enhancing study skills is an important part of our library program.  Students are working on basic skills such as attentive listening and following directions and will focus on time management, organization, and use of reference materials as we move through the quarter.

Along with learning about the library and working on study skills, students continue explore the wonders of the written language. Imaginations are stretched, vocabularies expanded, and communication skills enhanced as the students select books to read for pleasure, listen to stories, and share their own stories.  Though the library is usually a quiet place, that doesn't mean we're not busy learning and growing.
