Dear OLM Families,
Welcome to School Year 2019 - 2020! Our summer vacation is quickly coming to an end. I do hope that yours was (still is, for some of us) filled with lots of fun memories spent with family and loved ones.
Blessed to be on my fifth school year as Principal of Our Lady of Mercy School, I look forward to our continued work in collaborating with our families and communities in providing a faith-based Catholic education that engages and nourishes our students’ spiritual, academic, social and emotional formation that empowers them to be of service to God and others. The work that we, as a community, have done in moving achievement while ensuring the faith, spiritual, and personal formation of our youngsters is, indeed, praiseworthy. My sincerest appreciation to all!
Our theme this year is an inspiring quote by St. Francis of Assisi, “Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” I invite everyone to reflect on the quote as we ground the work that is ahead of us. We are all blessed with the opportunity to nurture the faith, academic, and personal formation of the children entrusted to our care. It is upon us to give our very best in delivering what is necessary, with the willingness to do what is possible to achieve what may seemingly be impossible outcomes. With all of us working together, we make great things happen!
We will continue our work on technology integration providing our students increased opportunities to utilize resources to enhance and deepen their learning. We will take a deeper dive in analyzing our data to ensure that we provide targeted and differentiated instruction, hence, heightening achievement. And with all these, we most certainly remain faithful to our call to further the mission of our church to instill a strong sense of Catholicity and readiness to be of service to our God and others.
Join me in welcoming our new staff members:
Assistant Principal: Sr. Nelia Pernecia, O.P.
Kindergarten teacher: Sr. Marjorie “Joy” Garcia, O.P.
Counselor: Dr. Bruce Colville
Instructional Aides: Mrs. Raquel Chew, Mrs. Tomasita Dearden, Mrs. Hanna Costello
Our journey continues in getting our students to be Super S.T.A.R.S. - Self-reflective, Thoughtful, Actively Engaged, Responsible, and Successful Catholic Christian Learners.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, August 26th, our first day of the school year. The following are some important information and reminders.
May the blessing of our awesome God, through the intercession of Our Lady of Mercy, be upon us this school year and always!
Yours in Christ,
Jeffrey T. Burgos
